Going Out of the House

Gee, I need to go to the grocery store and get a few things, I'll just pack up the girls and go, it shouldn't be that bad!  Yeah, right!  First thing is first, you have to get the diaper bag together.  With twins you need a bigger bag, because, let's face it, if you need 4 diapers for one kid and a change of clothes, you have to double it all for twins.  Common sense right?  Try fitting that into a regular sized diaper bag though!  When you register for your gifts while pregnant, make sure that diaper bag is big!

Once you have done that, then comes the fun of getting them into the car.  Put them in their car seats, (make sure you get light ones because you'll most likely be carrying one in each hand!), and carry them out to the car.  Simple right?  Except then you have to worry about the diaper bag too, hopefully it has a long strap and you can sling it over your shoulder to share some of the weight.  If not, you'll have to leave it by the door and go back and get it once the kids are in the car.

After you get everything settled, go to the store and shop!  Easy peesy right?  Hahahahaha!!!!!  You better have gotten a double stroller, and in my opinion one that isn't a side by side stroller!  You won't be able to fit down certain isles or around certain corners.  Also, get one of those mommy clips, the kind that looks like a giant thing that mountain climbers use.  You can clip a basket to the handle of the stroller, and that is what you will be able to buy that go around.  Why you ask?  Because grocery carts don't have room for two car seats!!  Totally unfair, I know, but that is our reality.  I made a trip to the grocery store a couple times a week, and it was a luxury when I could go and not have the girls with me, or if my husband and I could go and we would take two carts, one for each girl.

It's not that bad in all reality, but it's not that much fun either.  That's just for the grocery store though.  Imagine if you are going to spend an afternoon at a friends house, you'll need toys, clothes, and probably your pack and play.  Luckily, they will probably be small enough to both fit in the pack and play at the same time for naps. The pack and play is your best friend for those first few months.  I found one that had the dual bassinet option for the top instead of one bassinet and a changing station.  That thing LIVED in our bedroom until they were ready for their cribs.  There aren't dual bassinets so that they can sleep near your bed.  Instead of buying two bassinets and a pack and play, this was a great option, and saved money (which is going to be a little tight!).  I found it at Babys-R-Us, and it was a life saver!!!!
